Agate is generally brown. Often dyed because of its porous nature. Brownish orange agate is known as Cornelian, green-chrysoprase, blue-chalcedony, brownish red-carnelion, black agate is onyx.

Amazonite is a light aqua green stone with white mottled flecks.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz coloured by traces of manganese, titanium and iron.  It is of pale lilac, mauve or bluish violet colour.

Chalcedony is generally of milky brown colour, but there are also more rare blue green, orange-red varieties. Agate is frequently stained to resemble types of chalcedony.

Citrine a glassy wine-yellow variety of quartz, often mistakenly called "topaz" which is completely different and far more valuable than Citrine.

Coral is found growing plant-like on the sea bottom. The best corals come from around the Mediterranean. Bamboo Coral generally is a natural bamboo coral, which is usually a grey colour. However being porous it readily takes dye and is usually dyed red or pink.

Flourite is a transparent and translucent stone with a wide range of colours from pink purple, magenta, blue, yellow, green, red, brown and white.

Freshwater Pearl is a pearl that is cultured in a mussel in a lake, whereas the traditional cultured pearl is cultured in an oyster in the ocean. Freshwater cultured pearls are less expensive.  They come in many shapes from round to button shapes, from flat flakes to rice shapes and in many colours. The round shapes are generally more expensive.

Garnet The name given to a group of isomorhous minerals of different composition and colour. Almandine is of a deep velvety red and the most widely used in jewellery.

Jade Comes in a wide range of shades of green, brown, yellow, grey and pink and may be either milky or cloudy in appearance and sometimes speckled with tiny black spots.

Labradorite carries unique characteristics, turns sea blue, gold and green in bright light from grey or dark green colour if viewed in dim light.

Mother of Pearl The name is given to the lustrous pearly lining of the shells of pearl bearing molluscs. When polished it is similar to pearl.

Obsidian is a volcanic glass, which is generally black

Onyx is simply a black and white banded variety of quartz allied to agate

Pierdot The intensity of the colour of the stone depends upon the amount of iron contained.  The colour varies from yellow-green and olive to brownish green.

Rhodonite is a glass opaque pink to rose-red mineral, often with black inclusions.

Rose Quartz It is pale pink in colour and has a milky texture.

Ruby Zoisite is a green gemstone with red spots.

Smoky Quartz A variety of quartz that ranges in colour from cloudy brown to a dark root beer shade with smoky appearance.
